What is the Academy for Exploration?
Digital Explorer’s online Academy for Exploration is where schools and expeditions connect. Browse the map to find expeditions that are live in the field, ask questions or organise LIVE link-ups with your classroom. You can also find a range of educational resources produced by expeditions and Digital Explorer can help you share your fieldwork or expedition with the whole school community and a wider audience.
Why register?
Registering your school helps Digital Explorer keep in touch and you will:
- receive a monthly newsletter with the latest expedition and education news
- be the first to hear about competitions for your schools and pupils
- connected with expedition teams near you
- receive posters and resources from expeditions
How do I use the expedition map?
The expedition map shows completed, live and planned expeditions.
- browse completed expeditions for classroom resources or to arrange for a member of the team to visit your school
- ask questions to live expeditions and organise live links
- contact planned expeditions to ask questions and see how you can work with the expedition
What educational resources are available?
Each expedition that we work with produces its own educational resources. These can be found via the links from the map. Just click on the education tab in the balloon and you will find all the information you need.
Digital Explorer also produces Google Earth resources based on expeditions, as well as a multimedia lesson planning tool, the Classroom Media Player. You can contact relevant organisations to order or download copies of the Classroom Media Player.
How can I do micro-expeditions in my school?
The School Grounds project applies the methods that have been developed on Digital Explorer expeditions to the school grounds. There are several possible links to the curriculum including in geography, citizenship (specifically active citizenship) and science (biology).
